The truck was backing up and the driver failed to see the elderly pedestrian walking behind his vehicle, according to initial reports. The woman was rushed to the Italian Hospital in the city in critical condition, where she later died of her injuries.
The truck driver was detained for questioning and police have opened an investigation.
