Hamas prime minister in Gaza Ismail Haniyeh traveled on Wednesday to Cairo for a meeting with Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi, Ma’an News reported.

Morsi held talks with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas head Khaled Mashaal earlier this month.

Hamas had a strained relationship with the previous Egyptian government under Hosni Mubarak. Morsi, who ran for Egyptian president as the Muslim Brotherhood candidate, is reportedly under heavy pressure to take steps to ease conditions in the Gaza Strip by opening up the border crossing for free transfer of people and goods.
