Man suspected of killing his mother jumps into lake

Alleged killer flees the scene of the crime and makes last-ditch escape effort by wading into the Kinneret

A 59-year-old woman was found stabbed to death at her Tiberias home on Sunday. Her 27-year-old son was arrested shortly thereafter on suspicion he killed her.

Magen David Adom paramedics arrived at the woman’s apartment and pronounced her dead at the scene.

The man fled in his Chevrolet with police officers in pursuit. He abandoned the vehicle on the shore of the nearby Lake Kinneret (Sea of Galilee) and took off on foot. In a desperate attempt to escape the police, the suspect jumped into the lake and started swimming, but to no avail. Police officers leapt into the water after the suspect and apprehended him. He later confessed to killing her, saying he wanted to “put her out of her misery.”

The police noted that there were no prior charges against the suspect. The man was reportedly under the influence of drugs. “He was violent, flailing wildly and muttering incoherently,” said the arresting officer.

The family’s neighbors told Channel 10 News that the man was involved in drugs and had associated with criminals.
