A 16-year old stabbing victim who succumbed to his wounds early Saturday morning was revealed on Monday to be Naor Atias of Petah Tikva. Atias got caught up in a gang fight on Friday over the attentions of a teenage girl and was stabbed multiple times.

On Saturday, the Rishon Lezion Magistrate’s Court remanded to police custody three suspects in the killing.

One of the suspects, who was remanded for three days, is a 15-year-old boy. Another teen’s detention was extended by a day, and the primary suspect, 16, was remanded for five days. All the suspects are students in a remedial educational center, authorities said Monday.

The prime suspect, who confessed to his involvement, said he had drunk half a bottle of vodka before the altercation. His lawyer, Avi Cohen, said that his client is learning disabled and did not intend to kill anyone, and was also attacked by Atias during the fight.

According to the suspect, who is cooperating with authorities, the fight broke out after one of the youths saw the girl sitting with Atias and his friends in a park. The suspect and his friends then chased and attacked the group that was sitting with the girl. He said that Atias wasn’t one of the youths who were interested in the girl.

Atias suffered multiple stab wounds and was taken to Beilinson Medical Center in Petah Tikva, where he was pronounced dead.

A close friend to the Atias family described him as a “good kid” who did not go “looking for violence,” Ynet reported on Sunday.
