Palestinians strike at Jordan border crossing
Importers and exporters halt traffic for three hours at Allenby Bridge to protest delays in customs inspections
Palestinian importers and exporters staged a three-hour strike Monday morning at the Allenby Bridge crossing between Jordan and the Palestinian Authority.
The stoppage held up at the border a large number of trucks laden with goods. Importers and exporters said that it was the first of many protest steps.
The protesters claimed that since a new customs commissioner took over at the border crossing, customs inspections have been excessively slow, costing them a great deal of money.
The Allenby Bridge, also known as the King Hussein Bridge, is the only bridge that connects the West Bank to Jordan.
