As the self-declared city with the most dogs per person in the world, Tel Aviv-Jaffa will be holding its own canine festival next Friday.

In the first event of its kind in the city, “Claviv — The Festival of Dogs of Tel Aviv-Jaffa” will be celebrated in the Bnei Dan Park in Ganei Yehoshua, from 12 p.m. until 7 p.m. on August 26.

According to the municipality, there are some 25,000 dogs in Tel Aviv homes, which works out to about one dog per 17 residents.

The dog-loving event will include an adoption corner set up by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, for those who want more dogs or simply don’t own one yet, as well as information stalls on canine caring, lectures on the animals’ emotions, training sessions, high-tech for dogs, information about health, homeopathy and nutrition, as well as a dog spa and grooming station.

Over the last few years, Tel Aviv-Jaffa municipality has created 70 dog parks and corners that include canine playground equipment, drinking stations, as well as beaches dedicated to allowing our four-legged friends to run free. There’s also a map of the city’s dog parks featured on the municipality website.

Many restaurants, cafes and offices in Tel Aviv are also dog-friendly, and even Ben-Gurion Airport has a dog lounge. For more dog viewing, just go to the Instagram account of the city’s canines — @dogsoftelaviv.
