Three synagogues vandalized in Tel Aviv area

Teenage suspect in police custody; beer stolen from Or Yehuda house of worship

Three synagogues in the Tel Aviv area — two in Bat Yam and one in Or Yehuda — were vandalized overnight Sunday, police reported.

In Bat Yam, damage to synagogue property was reported and religious books had been strewn over the floor in one of the buildings.

Responding to a call, police discovered an 18-year old outside the synagogue in Or Yehuda, who was apprehended after a chase on foot. Several bottles of beer were later discovered to be missing from the synagogue.

Police said they were opening an investigation into the incidents. It was not immediately apparent if the synagogue break-ins in the two cities were connected.
