A Tunisian court sentenced a man to five months in prison for painting a Star of David on the wall of a mosque at the end of a prayer session, the Nana10 news site reported on Thursday.
Riza al-Hariri was arrested in March after spray-painting a Star of David on the wall of the al-Fateh mosque in the capital, Tunis, after prayers on Friday.
The incident provoked outrage among worshipers. The Tunisian president’s bureau issued a statement condemning the act.
The 57-year-old Hariri, who was described as being mentally disturbed, was held in prison while awaiting trial and will reportedly be released soon, having already served his five-month sentence behind bars.
