Boy killed on his bike in Karnei Shomron

13 year-old was on his way to synagogue

A 13 year-old boy was killed on Friday morning while riding his bicycle in the West Bank settlement of Karnei Shomron just south of Nablus. He was pronounced dead on the scene by paramedics. Police are investigating the incident.

Initial reports indicate that the youth, who was not wearing a safety helmet, was biking to the settlement’s synagogue for morning prayer services. Police believe that he hit a parked car and was thrown into the street, where he was subsequently run over by a large vehicle, either a bus or a truck.  Eyewitnesses said that there was a bus on the road at about the time of the tragedy.

Originally police suspected a hit-and-run, but have also accepted the possibility that a heavy vehicle could have hit the boy and the driver not realized he had done so. The vehicle and driver have not yet been located.
