Egypt’s deputy head of Sinai security injured in shooting

Gen. Hatem Amin and three other officers hospitalized following attack on patrol

Four Egyptian officers, including the deputy head of Sinai security, were wounded on Monday when gunmen opened fire on their jeep while they patrolled the Sinai peninsula near Wadi Feran.

Gen. Hatem Amin and three others were hospitalized following the attack.

The Egyptian military launched “Operation Eagle” in an effort to root out and destroy Islamist terrorists in the Sinai Peninsula in the wake of the August 5 raid in which 16 Egyptian border guards at the Rafah border crossing were killed.
