An inmate at the Tsalmon prison in the Lower Galilee was found dead in his cell Tuesday after apparently committing suicide. The 36-year-old prisoner was discovered hanging in the cell’s bathroom by his cellmate.

A medical team that arrived at the scene pronounced him dead on the spot.

The inmate’s identity was initially undisclosed. Prison authorities said he had no record of suicidal tendencies.

The prisoner had been detained over the past few days over complaints of alleged domestic violence, Ynet reported.

Prisons Services appointed a committee to investigate the detainee’s death.
