Grenade tossed into yard of Netanyahu-linked socialite Nicol Raidman, no injuries

A hand grenade was tossed early Wednesday into the yard of Nicol Raidman, a wealthy socialite and close friend of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s wife Sara, where it exploded but caused no injuries.

In a statement from a representative carried by Hebrew-language media, Raidman said she does not think she was was the intended target.

“As we understand it, they got the wrong address and we’re sure the police will immediately wrap up the investigation,” the statement read.

According to the Kan public broadcaster, the grenade landed in a swimming pool, which absorbed the blast at her Herzliya Pituah home. The seaside neighborhood is home to some of the wealthiest people in Israel, as well as a number of foreign ambassadors.

Israel Police said it opened an investigation after receiving a report of the grenade attack at what it said was the home of a businesswoman with ties to Netanyahu’s family, without naming Raidman.

In a post to her Instagram account, Raidman thanked her 1.7 million followers for their concern, writing, “Everything is okay, thank God.”

She described hearing “a loud noise” during the night in the yard, but noted “luckily there was no damage, physically or materially.”

Raidman, a former model who was once married to industrial tycoon Michael Cherney, became a breakout star on Israel’s version of “Real Housewives” from 2011 to 2013 and later launched a luxury clothing and fragrance brand, which has since closed.

The attack came less than two weeks after a grenade was thrown into the yard of the Herzliya home of the Norwegian ambassador to Israel, causing no injuries.

Earlier last month, state prosecutors said they would file indictments against four gang members suspected of targeting a Tel Aviv apartment building in two separate grenade attacks in March this year.

Israel has seen a wave of violent crime largely linked to battles between crime families.
