Israeli soccer star Zahavi’s Amsterdam home ransacked for second time in six months

Burglars broke into the Amsterdam home of Israeli soccer star Eran Zahavi on Sunday evening, ransacking the premises and making off with some items.

It was the second break-in this year at the home of Zahavi, who plays for Israel’s national team and Dutch soccer club PSV Eindhoven.

Zahavi, his wife Shay and their three young children were away at the time in Dubai, where the player is recovering from an injury he sustained while playing for the national team.

Those close to the Zahavi family said he is considering leaving the Netherlands and PSV Eindhoven, Hebrew media reported Monday.

Zahavi’s mother, Etti, speaking to Radio103 FM, said the burglars took “a few things.”

“But that’s nonsense, it doesn’t matter. The most important thing is that they’re okay.”

Police said they were looking for two suspects who were seen leaving the building with wheeled bags.

Investigators also released video footage that showed the suspects cycling away from the scene, although one was wearing a face mask and the other a hoodie that covered his head.

In May, Zahavi’s family were robbed at gunpoint by masked burglars in their home while the player was at an away game.

According to reports, the two robbers impersonated delivery personnel in order to enter the house. After the family opened the door for them, they threatened Zahavi’s wife and children with a gun, and proceeded to rob the home. No one was physically harmed, though the family was reportedly tied up.

Minutes after the robbery, Dutch police launched a helicopter in an attempt to locate the robbers. Zahavi was summoned for questioning by the Dutch police, and a forensic team investigated the scene.

The culprits from the previous burglary have not been apprehended, despite facial composites of them being publicized by police.
