90-year-old man detained after striking two settlers with his car amid argument

A 90-year-old Jewish Israeli man has been detained by police after striking two people with his vehicle during a dispute near the Gush Etzion Junction in the West Bank.

According to police, the man arrived in his car at a farm nearby and began filming with his camera. He got into an argument with a teenager at the scene and then got in his vehicle and began driving, lightly striking the teenager, police say.

Police say the teen did not require treatment.

Then, a woman approached the vehicle to intervene, and the suspect also struck her, and she clung to the car, was dragged for several meters and was lightly hurt, police say.

Police say the man has been taken for questioning and his vehicle seized. Police did not provide any further indication as to the suspects motive or the nature of the argument.

The Israel Hayom daily reports that the suspect has in the past been involved in arguments with local settlers.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich blames the incident on “the incitement campaign led by [The Democrats party chief] Yair Golan and his allies on the left,” claiming that it was carried out by a “Jewish anarchist.”
