Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas calls on the United States to intervene to stop the escalation in the West Bank and Gaza after a bloody day of clashes in the West Bank.

“The president calls on the US administration to immediately and swiftly intervene to stop this Israeli aggression so that things will not get out of control,” Abbas’s office says in a statement.

Israeli soldiers have clashed with Palestinian rioters across the West Bank today as demonstrations against Israeli policies turned violent. At least nine Palestinians have been killed in the clashes and over 500 Palestinians have been wounded.

Palestinians were said to throw stones and launch fireworks at troops, who responded with live fire.

Abbas calls the shooting deaths “brutal and programmed killings carried out by the Israeli occupation forces.”
