Animal rights activists, Haredim clash over ‘kapparot’

Animal rights activists clash with the ultra-Orthodox in Ashdod over kapparot — the tradition of transferring one’s sins to a chicken in the run-up to Yom Kippur.

The police say that the protesters used tear gas on those participating in the ritual, NRG reports. One person is hospitalized after suffering a reaction to the effects of the gas.
