Aviv Kochavi named as new IDF deputy chief of staff

Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman has named current OC Northern Command Maj. Gen. Aviv Kochavi as the army’s new deputy chief of staff, the army says.

Today’s announcement is part of a wide-ranging shake up of the General Staff that also includes naming a new air force chief.

Kochavi has been head of the northern command for the last two years and previously also served as the head of the IDF’s Military Intelligence Directorate.
