Bereaved families demand Shin Bet probe ‘suspicions of treason at highest levels’
The October Council, an organization of families who lost loved ones on October 7, calls on Shin Bet chief David Zini to launch “a comprehensive, swift, and independent investigation that will examine all suspicions of treason at the highest levels of the State of Israel.”
It cites yesterday’s airing of an interview with Eli Feldstein, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s indicted former spokesperson, in which he asserted that the premier was aware and supportive of his efforts to make use of classified intelligence to sway public opinion against a hostage deal, that top aides attempted to quash investigations, that the prime minister directed aides to attempt to end public discourse about his being “responsible” for October 7, and more.
It alleges that the government’s ongoing refusal to form a state commission of inquiry, together with a series of additional actions, “raises a grave suspicion that this is not merely an evasion of responsibility, but an ongoing effort at a cover-up — so that the truth will never be revealed.”
“Already, protocol changes have been exposed. Already, contradictory versions have been revealed. Already, reports have been published about investigative disruptions and attempts to shift blame from one party to another,” it says.
“Already, we have seen attempts to control what the media reports or does not report. Already, interventions have been recorded in security bodies that are supposed to be professional and independent. Already, we have witnessed ongoing attempts to incite, divide, and delegitimize the judicial system.
“It is time to stop the downward spiral, dismantle the walls built around the truth, and restore to the public the confidence that its state functions with transparency and loyalty.”
