Security camera footage published by Channel 12 news shows an individual apparently gluing the lock of a Jerusalem cafe that is open on Shabbat.
The overnight vandalism meant that the opening of the coffee shop was delayed by some 40 minutes as staff struggled to gain access to the premises, the outlet says.
The individual — who appears to be a woman — is wearing a hat, as well as a face mask to disguise their identity.
No arrests have been made.
The incident came a number of hours before dozens of Haredi protesters gathered at the central Jerusalem cafe for the seventh week running.
The confrontations began on July 4, when dozens of ultra-Orthodox demonstrators, many of them minors, gathered outside the cafe in several waves, banging on its windows and, according to staff, overturning tables. On another occasion, dozens of Haredi men burst through barricades and tried to force their way inside.
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
