Hamas: 2-week-old Gazan baby died of hypothermia, person killed in building collapse due to heavy rain

Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry say a 2-week-old baby boy died of hypothermia yesterday.
Mohammed Khalil Abu al-Khair was admitted into intensive care two days ago, the ministry says in a daily report.
It does not specify where al-Khair’s family was living or which hospital he died at. The death could not be independently verified.
Separately, Hamas’s civil defense agency says a person was killed earlier today when a family home in northern Gaza’s coastal Shati refugee camp partially collapsed due to the heavy rainfall, with people inside.
The person’s age and name were not immediately available. Several other people were wounded, the Hamas agency says.

Palestinian media reports that the building had been damaged in an Israeli bombing. According to the UN, over half of Gaza’s structures have been destroyed in the war with Israel, and roughly 40 percent of the remaining structures are severely or moderately damaged.
At least 10 people have died from building collapses and cold exposure this winter season, according to Hamas.
The United Nations has said that hundreds of thousands of displaced Gazans face flooding of their tents and shelters by heavy rains, and materials for shelters and sandbags are not being allowed to enter the enclave.
COGAT, the Defense Ministry agency responsible for overseeing humanitarian matters in Gaza, said yesterday that “claims suggesting that weather-related impacts result from deliberate restrictions are inconsistent with facts on the ground.”
“Close to 310,000 tents and tarpaulins entered Gaza lately,” and “close to 100,000 pallets of winter-related items and sanitation supplies were approved by COGAT, and are now waiting for immediate coordination for entry into Gaza by the international organizations,” the Defense Ministry body said.
