Hamas says its delegation arrived in Cairo for talks on second phase of ceasefire
A Hamas delegation led by senior official Khalil al-Hayya arrived in Cairo this evening for talks with Egyptian mediators on the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire, Hamas says in a statement.
According to the statement, the talks are expected to address the opening of the Rafah Border Crossing between Egypt and Gaza; the formation of the independent Palestinian technocratic commission to which Hamas is supposed to cede power in the Strip; and the further withdrawal of Israel forces.
Hamas says its delegation in Cairo will also meet “with the leaders of Palestinian factions and forces” to discuss developments in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
Palestinian Authority officials, including Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh and intelligence chief Majed Faraj, met with mediators in Egypt last week to discuss the ceasefire’s next phase.
