IDF announces soldier killed Friday in Gaza

The IDF announces that an Israeli reservist soldier was killed Friday morning in combat in the northern Gaza Strip.

Master Sergeant Yair Ashkenazy, 36, of Rehovot, fell in combat. His family has been notified. Ashkenazy will be laid to rest in the Rehovot military cemetery at 4 p.m. on Friday.

The IDF is investigating the possibility of Ashkenazy dying from friendly fire, Channel 2 reports.

The army says that 33 IDF officers and soldiers have died in combat since the start of Operation Protective Edge.
