IDF to begin providing fresh meals with most stringent level of kosher certification to soldiers who request them

In an effort to expand services for ultra-Orthodox troops in the military, the IDF says that it will soon provide fresh meals with the most stringent level of kosher certification to those who request them.

Until now, Haredi soldiers who asked for “Mehadrin” meals received sealed food trays.

The sealed meals will be gradually discontinued, and starting in two weeks, the IDF will begin to supply ultra-Orthodox soldiers with fresh Mehadrin meals.

The army says the move is part of efforts to “improve and expand the provision of meals for soldiers requiring Mehadrin kosher food, as well as for those with medical sensitivities and all service members.”

The adviser to the IDF chief of staff on ultra-Orthodox affairs, Brig. Gen. Avinoam Emunah, says that the IDF is “not satisfied with ensuring that a Haredi soldier can serve in the IDF and maintain his way of life. Our responsibility is to ensure that he receives the conditions that will allow him to serve well, respectfully and for the long term.”
