An Iranian opposition group denounces the Islamic Republic’s policies towards Israel and emphasizes that these policies have had a strong role in amplifying tensions in the region.
The Iranian Liberal Students and Graduates assert in their statement that the regime’s policy runs against Iran’s national interests.
This statement was published only a day after Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called for the West Bank to be armed.
The student group condemns both the killing of civilians and the use of children as “human shields” by terrorist groups in Gaza. They also express disappointment that the Islamic Republic’s “harmful foreign policy” would change and call for close relations between the two countries in a “free and democratic Iran” which can help the peace negotiations between Israel and Palestinians and reaching a two-state agreement based on the pre-1967 lines.
The opposition group also criticized some anti-Semitic and racist comments posted by Iranian users on social media, stressing that these actions “are not compatible with morality.”
“We hope that one day, we’ll hear the call for freedom, democracy, and peaceful coexistence being transmitted from Iran and the rest of the Middle East instead of violence, war and political Islam,” the statement reads.
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
