Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is about to remotely address Knesset members.
Ahead of his speech, which is also being shown on Israel’s main television channels, Knesset Speaker Mickey Levy thanks Zelensky for taking the time to address Israeli lawmakers “in these difficult days.”
“In my capacity as speaker of the legislature of the State of Israel, I would like to express my sympathy with the pain of the Ukrainian people… and send from here, Jerusalem our capital, condolences to the families of the victims and Ukrainians wounded in the war.”
Levy calls the Russian invasion a “blatant violation of the international order and everything needs to be done to swiftly bring about a ceasefire and an end to the war.”
He also expresses hope that the mediation efforts of Prime Minister Naftali Bennett “and other international figures will bear fruit” and bring an end to the fighting, before giving the floor to Zelensky.
According to Channel 12 news, 112 of the Knesset’s 120 members are currently on the call.
