Libyan chief of staff killed in plane crash after departing Turkey, say officials

The prime minister of Libya’s UN-recognized government, Abdulhamid Dbeibah, says he has received news of the death of Libya’s army chief of staff, Mohammed Ali Ahmed Al-Haddad, after Haddad’s plane lost radio contact above Turkey’s Ankara.

Dbeibah, mourning Haddad’s death, says the army chief of staff had been accompanied by others, including military officials.

Turkey says its gendarmerie has discovered the wreckage of the plane, which disappeared shortly after taking off from Ankara.

“The wreckage of the business jet that departed Ankara’s Esenboga airport for Tripoli has been located by Turkish gendarmerie approximately two kilometers south of Kesikkavak village in the Haymana district” 74 kilometers (45 miles) from Ankara, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya says on X.
