Livni says op to continue until south is safe

Justice Minister Tzipi Livni, a member of the security cabinet, vows that Operation Protective Edge will continue until the residents of the south of Israel are safe.

“If they keep firing, we’ll continue the operation,” she tells Channel 2.

Israeli leaders are convinced Hamas is seeking a truce but it feels it can’t accept the Egyptian or Israeli conditions that leave it without achievements after a month of fighting.

Meanwhile, it’s not clear Israeli leaders want the operation to end while tunnels and rocket launchers remain intact.

“Despite their desire that we stop, we won’t stop until we know residents of the south are not threatened,” says Livni.
