Netanyahu nominates Prof. Amir Yaron as next Bank of Israel governor

Amir Yaron, an Israeli-US citizen and finance professor, is nominated the next governor of the Bank of Israel, the country’s central bank.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon give a press conference and Netanyahu announces Yaron, 54, as the nominee for the position.

Netanyahu says Yaron is the “most suitable” candidate for the position and praises his relevant experience and “hands-on approach.”

Outgoing governor Karnit Flug is set to retire next month, after announcing earlier in the year that she would not be continuing in the position.
