Panel tasked with conducting AG’s dismissal hearing to hold second session on Thursday
The ministerial committee tasked with giving the government its recommendation on whether or not to fire Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara decides at the end of today’s hearing that it will hold a second session this Thursday.
Baharav-Miara refused to attend today’s meeting, describing it as a “sham hearing” with a predetermined outcome, and warning it would deal a severe blow to the rule of law and to democracy.
The process has also been heavily criticized by opposition lawmakers, many of whom use today’s Knesset faction meetings as an opportunity to speak out against it.
The Democrats chair Yair Golan declares that the government is “rushing toward a full-scale coup d’état,” while Yesh Atid MK Naor Shiri warns that Israel is “in a destructive process of dismantling democracy.”
