Prosecutors charge man for allegedly telling soldiers he would murder Netanyahu

Police prosecutors indict a man today after he allegedly threatened to kill Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and harm other elected officials outside the Kirya military base in Tel Aviv.

The defendant, a 46-year-old resident of Rishon Lezion, approached soldiers outside the base on the eve of Simchat Torah earlier this week and threatened to murder the premier, police say.

He had previously written Facebook posts expressing his desire to “slaughter” Netanyahu with a pistol, Ynet reports. The defendant was reportedly kept in police custody for two extra days by order of the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court and recommended for psychiatric examination.

Police accuse the defendant of making threats on three separate occasions and request that he remain in detention until the end of legal proceedings, law enforcement says.
