Russia: Jets strike 8 IS targets in Syria, no civilian areas

Russia says its air force struck eight Islamic State targets in Syria today, but insists that no civilian areas were hit.

The jets carried out a total of 20 sorties, the Defense Ministry in Moscow says, according to the Russian news agency Itar Tass.

Syrian opposition forces say 36 people died in the Russian airstrikes, and claims that none of the targets were in areas held by Islamic State.
