Russia sought alliance with Kurds against Islamist rebels in Syria
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleRussia tried to forge an ad hoc alliance with Kurdish forces in Syria in order to operate against Jaish al-Fatah, a coalition of Islamist rebel groups unaffiliated with the Islamic State, senior Israeli officials say. The Kurds apparently didn’t respond to their appeals.
The airstrikes, which aim to expand the area under control of Syrian President Bashar Assad, will be followed up by ground operations by Russian, Iranian, Hezbollah and Syrian forces around Idlib and Latakia, the senior sources say.
