Shin Bet chief said to warn cabinet over deal with Hamas

Shin Bet chief Nadav Argaman reportedly warned the cabinet against reaching a deal with the Hamas terror group in Gaza that does not include the rival Palestinian Authority.

“Pushing Abu Mazen to the side will just prove that terror pays,” Argaman reportedly told the cabinet, according to Hadashot news, referring to PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas by his nickname.

Hamas ousted the PA from Gaza in 2007. Several attempts at reconciliation between them have failed.

Reaching a deal with Hamas, while ignoring the PA, which cooperates with Israel, would only prove to the Palestinians that “the only way to achieve results is through violence,” the report quotes Argaman as saying.
