Suspect arrested in 2019 murder of 18-year-old who was discovered dead in ditch

Police say they have arrested a suspect in the murder of 18-year-old Eviatar Azarzar this morning, nearly six years after his corpse was discovered in a ditch near a cemetery.

The suspect is arrested following an apparent breakthrough in the investigation. Additional arrests are expected in the coming days, police add.

Azarzar, from a Jerusalemite family, went missing for three weeks in 2019 before his body was found in a pit in Ramat Hasharon, an affluent city just north of Tel Aviv. His upper torso was riddled with gunshots.

A gag order is still in place on most details of the case, which is being probed by Tel Aviv District police investigators. If not renewed by the court, the order will expire Wednesday.
