US President Donald Trump claims Iran has expressed interest in holding a meeting with the US.
“We received a call just as I was coming here, and they want to meet,” Trump says on an interview with Fox News.
There is no corroboration of Trump’s claim.
Trump said yesterday that his negotiators have been in touch with their Iranian counterparts regularly, including in the last hour.
Asked if he has decided to wipe out the leadership of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Trump responds that he has before appearing to backtrack.
“They’re nasty people, but they want to make a deal,” he says.
Q: You came to the conclusion that you couldn't negotiate with the IRGC, does that mean that you might wipe them out like you did ISIS.
TRUMP: Yeah. It does. We received a call just as I was coming here and they want to meet. pic.twitter.com/wS43Si724g

Speaking at an event in Pennsylvania shortly after the Fox interview, Trump claims Iran wants “to settle so badly” amid the ongoing US bombing campaign.
“They don’t like what we’re doing, and they do want to settle. We’ll find out whether or not we settle with them, or we just finish it off,” Trump says.
However, he spoke about “finishing off” Iran throughout the war and was apparently unable to do so.
