WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump announces that Washington will contribute $10 billion to the Board of Peace tasked with overseeing the postwar management of Gaza.
The figure is far higher than the $1 billion that officials initially believed that the US would donate.
There is no breakdown of the funds or timeline for when they will be transferred.
Addressing the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace, Trump says Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, the United Arab Emirates, Morocco, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, and Kuwait have also agreed to contribute what amounts to over $7 billion to the cause.
Trump says the latter group will be giving a “relief package,” indicating that their funds will go largely toward humanitarian aid.
Separately, the UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs is raising $2 billion for the support of Gaza, Trump announces.
Trump says FIFA has agreed to “raise a total of $75 million for projects in Gaza,” which will be “soccer-related.”
He claims that Japan has also agreed to host a Gaza fundraiser and that Norway has agreed to host a subsequent Board of Peace event.
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
