“We deplore antisemitic slogans and symbols at recent protests, including chants of “Gas the Jews” in Sydney,” says US antisemitism envoy Deborah Lipstadt tweets. “We condemn those who take to the streets of cities like London and New York to celebrate Hamas’s mass murder of 1,200 civilians.”

“Reveling in the murder and rape of civilians, or chanting ‘From the river to the sea,’ has nothing to do with advancing security, prosperity, freedom and democracy for the Palestinian people. Such hatred only makes peace harder to achieve,” she says.

“This is not a matter of religion or politics. Murder is never acceptable and cannot be justified by any faith or ideology. Whatever your views on Mideast policy, targeting people because they are Jews or based on a real or perceived connection to Israel is antisemitic.
