Yisrael Beytenu says it will veto amended mini-market legislation

Yisrael Beytenu says it will veto legislation that would force mini-markets in Tel Aviv to close on the Sabbath.

MK Robert Ilatov tells coalition chairman MK David Bitan in a letter that that Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman’s party will vote against any version of the so-called mini-market bill.

Interior Minister Aryeh Deri, from the ultra-Orthodox Shas party, has been advancing legislation to give him the authority to shutter mini-markets in the country on Shabbat, bypassing a High Court of Justice decision

Liberman, whose coalition party has an effective veto on matters of religion and state, has made clear he will not tolerate any changes to the religious status quo in Israel.
