The family of Aleh Agbaria, the man who fell to his death while the IDF’s 669 rescue unit was trying to rescue him from a minefield in March, 2009, will be paid 2 million shekels by the state.

Agbaria was injured after wandering into a minefield and detonating one of the devices. His family sued the state and a settlement was reached on Wednesday. Agbaria was being raised to the rescue chopper and was nearly secured when he fell to his death.

The family sued the state in Nazareth District Court for NIS 4.2 million in damages, the report said. As part of the agreement there will be no further legal action taken against by the family.

The damages awarded will be paid out within 30 days of the Court’s approval of the deal.
