Dark Nights, Bright Lights: Artists Respond to Rituals and Traditions in the Homeplace and Beyond is a month-long celebration of ritual performance in December. This celebration honors the coming winter solstice, which has inspired cultures the world over to create sacred rituals and rites, often involving women and the home, subjects usuall overlooked by the writers – and readers – of history. The festival will showcase traditions dating 7,000 years to the present day, stemming from the Jewish Diaspora, Korean Shamanism, ancient Persian culture and philosophies, Sufism, Palestinian art, and contemporary personal religion.
Artists Dohee Lee, Jewlia Eisenberg of Charming Hostess, Amy Berk, Najat El-Taji El-Khairy, and Fariba Bogzaran will be performing, presenting work, and in residence at Meridian Gallery during the month of December.
The celebration runs through December 21, 2012.
