Parents of fallen soldiers from the Second Lebanon War said they were disappointed by the government after discovering that not a single minister would attend the unveiling of a war memorial Thursday, Israel Radio reported. Three MKs did plan on attending.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu canceled his participation after spraining his foot, and families told Israel Radio that his cancellation had been followed by the retraction of all the ministers who had planned on attending with him.
The memorial was built on Har Adir, a mountain in the north of the country near the border of Lebanon, with a view toward many of the sites where battles occurred during the 2006 conflict.
During the month-long war 121 IDF soldiers were killed, and the site is intended to be the official memorial.
