The Cabinet decided on Sunday to split responsibilities over immigration between the Jewish Agency and the Immigrant Absorption Ministry.

According to the decision, the Jewish Agency would be responsible for immigration-related activities abroad, such as encouraging Diaspora youth to visit Israel and connect to Israeli young people, while the government would take on full responsibility for immigrants’ absorption in Israel.

The government is hoping the move will ensure the continuation of joint projects that were facing cancellation due to budgetary constraints in the Jewish Agency.

According to a Jewish Agency statement, the allocation of responsibilities will allow the organization to concentrate on expanding projects aimed at combating Israel delegitimization, partnerships between Diaspora communities and communities in Israel, and rescuing Jews living in at-risk countries.
