A fire in an apartment block in the central city of Hadera killed a woman and injured at least three people Wednesday night.

Eight fire and rescue teams were on site to battle the blaze, which engulfed two apartments on the top floor of the four-story building before it was put out.

Three people were lightly hurt from smoke inhalation and were taken to the nearby Hillel Yaffe Medical Center for treatment. Around 10 in total were listed as lightly injured in the incident.

Firefighters launched an investigation into the cause of the inferno.

“We arrived at the scene and saw flames, fire and lots of smoke rising from the apartment,” a volunteer with the United Hatzalah rescue services told Army Radio.

“Firefighting teams worked at the scene to save a number of trapped [people] and unfortunately even extracted the body of a woman from the apartment,” the volunteer said. “At the scene we treated around 10 lightly injured, some of whom afterwards were taken by Magen David Adom to the hospital.”
