An Israeli army officer was wounded Tuesday by gunfire from the Syrian side of the Golan Heights, the military said, in what was believed to have been a deliberate attack.
“During a routine IDF activity in the Golan Heights, shots were fired at an IDF force,” a statement read.
“An IDF officer was lightly injured as a result.”
Army spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Peter Lerner said the shots were “direct fire.”
There has been repeated shooting across the ceasefire line since the uprising in Syria erupted in March 2011, some of it stray.

On January 28, two IDF soldiers — Major Yochai Kalangel, 25, and Staff Sergeant Dor Chaim Nini, 20 — were killed in a convoy by Hezbollah terrorists operating from southern Lebanon, in what was deemed a reprisal for a previous attack in Syria a week earlier the group attributed to Israel. The strike, allegedly by Israel, killed top Hezbollah commanders and an Iranian general on the Syrian Golan Heights.
