An Israeli settler Wednesday shot a Palestinian who thew stones at his car as he drove along a road in the West Bank.

The incident came after a group of 20 Palestinians hurled rocks at vehicles traveling on Route 60 near the Palestinian village of Silwad, the IDF said.

One Israeli driver stopped his car, chased the fleeing Palestinians, and shot one of them.

The Palestinian was taken to a hospital in Israel with moderate injuries.

Police detained the shooter and a passenger who was in the car with him, the Hebrew daily Haaretz reported. Their attorney, far-right activist Itamar Ben Gvir, said they opened fire in self-defense because they were attacked with rocks. Police also detained the Palestinian.

In a separate incident overnight, a woman, 35, was injured when Palestinians threw rocks at her car on Route 60 near the Al-Khader junction. Magen David Adom paramedics who arrived at the scene treated the woman and took her to Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem in Jerusalem with light injuries to her face.
