Residents of Tiberias were shocked on Monday morning when an ultralight aircraft landed next to a local shopping center in what appeared to be a desperate emergency landing.
Air traffic controllers initially feared the plane had crashed.
Police rushed to the scene but were surprised to find that the pilot had simply dropped by the BIG shopping center for a cup of coffee.
When questioned by police, the pilot said he received permission from air traffic controllers to land near the shopping center and buy the beverage. However, air control authorities reported that they had no knowledge of any such request.
Police are clarifying the pilot’s claims, and he may face further questioning.
