Police spokesman Sven-Erik Olsson said no one was injured in Tuesday’s incident and that all embassy staff were brought into safety.

Olsson said the intruders were part of a larger group that was demonstrating against Syrian President Bashir Assad’s crackdown on opposition groups. Olsson said those arrested are suspected of breaking and entering and for inflicting damage to embassy property.

The Syrian conflict has spiraled into a bloody civil war that activists say has claimed more than 20,000 lives so far.
