A resident of Haifa in his 30s died Saturday after suffering a gunshot wound in the northern city.

According to an initial police probe, the man apparently tried to snatch a gun from another Haifa resident, who shot him.

Channel 12 news said the two had previously met and were acquainted, without elaborating further.

Medical personnel found him in critical condition at the apartment where he was shot before taking him to the hospital for treatment. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

It was not immediately clear why the man tried to take the firearm.

The shooter, 61, was later arrested. He works as a security guard and has a license for the weapon, the Ynet news site reported.

Police said they were investigating the shooting.
