A newly sworn-in Republican congresswoman declared that “Hitler was right on one thing” at a pro-Trump Washington rally against certifying the Democratic results of the presidential election.

Her comments came before supporters of the president stormed the US Capitol in unprecedented scenes, smashing property, breaking into the halls of Congress and sending US lawmakers fleeing.

“If we win a few elections, we’re still going to be losing unless we win the hearts and minds of our children. This is the battle. Hitler was right on one thing. He said, ‘Whoever has the youth has the future,’” said Mary Miller, appearing to quote from the former Nazi leader’s autobiography Mein Kampf.

Anti Defamation League CEO Jonathan Greenblatt condemned the remarks, tweeting “Hitler wasn’t right on anything — and invoking his name in this or any other context is wildly offensive & disrespects the millions who perished due to the Nazis’ hateful, genocidal regime.”

“An apology is the least you can do for your constituents & our country,” Greenblatt added.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker caller Miller’s comments “unfathomable and disgusting” and called on Illinois Republicans to “condemn this vile, evil streak in their party.”

Miller was elected in November to represent Illinois’ 15th district. While she has welcomed the results of her own race, she has called the results of the presidential election “tainted” and vowed to vote against Congress’s certification of the Electoral College.
