An Israeli citizen fell to his death in the Black Sea resort of Batumi, Georgia, the Foreign Ministry said Sunday.

The man, resident of the southern port city of Ashdod said to have been in his 30s, died on Friday.

Georgia’s foreign ministry told the Israeli embassy in Tbilisi of the incident. His family has been informed.

Israel’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that it was in contact with the victim’s family.

The ministry offered no further details on how the man died.

Georgia, which sits at the crossroads of Europe and Asia in the Caucasus, has become an increasingly popular tourist destination in recent years for Israelis drawn by the hiking and spectacular mountain scenery.

In September last year, two Israelis were killed and several others injured when the minibus they were riding in collided with another vehicle in Georgia’s mountainous southern region.

In October 2016, two Israeli children were killed and four other members of the same family seriously injured when the car they were in plunged into a gorge in the remote mountainous Tusheti region in the northeast part of the country during a storm.
